A Total Talent: Script

For my documentary I will include both talking heads and a Voice-of-God Narration from both a narrator and Emma herself.

Voice of God Narration:
“Emma Custis, a talent like no other. Join us on this documentary as we follow her incredibly journey, how she chased her dreams and fought to the top”
“It’s not all glitz and glam for Emma. Travelling is very time consuming and takes up a lot of time in her life.”

Emma’s Narration:
“Ever since I was a young girl, you’d find me up in my room performing in front of the mirror; Emma Custis smashing it on some stage, the crowd going wild. It kept me going until I left home. I came to London where my dreams turned to reality. I’m still performing and dreaming in front of the mirror, expect now I share my dream”
For the talking head interviews all my characters felt comfortable and were happy to improvise if subject matters were provided.

Emma’s Interviews:
-How she became interested in performing
-Who she was inspired by
-How thankful she is for the support
-How she got to the position she is in today
-Explain about the song she wrote- Jessie’s Secret
-Bane of travelling

Anais and Amy’s Interview:
-
How long they've known Emma
-How they both know Emma
-How proud they are of Emma
-How exited they are she has succeeded
Liam’s Interview:
-How long he has been her manager
-Hopes for her future
-Thoughts on her as an artist
-Success of her as a performer

A Total Talent: Locations

The locations I plan to film my documentary in are all local to be and easily accessible. This means I am able to film when needed as opposed to be restricted. The talking head interviews with Emma are planned to be filmed in both mine and Emma's home. Both our houses I think are suitable for the character which Emma plays to be living in due to the decoration and interior of the rooms. The talking head interviews with Emma's friends, fans and manager I plan to film in school within selected locations e.g. the hall/corridors as I don't want all characters to appear to be in the same location.  Other locations which could possible be used would be a car, in which I would film Emma on the way to an appearance; and the music block at school where Emma has singing lessons.

Some possible locations for filming

A Total Talent: Costumes

During the course of my documentary there will be a different variety of costumes my character Emma Custis will wear. I am presenting her as a character with three different ambitions of swimming, singing and performing, for filming Emma will be wearing clothes associated with that particular division. When we see Emma swimming she will be wearing a swimming costume, goggles and a swimming hat which is the typical stereotype people have. As Emma is being portrayed as a famous character her clothes she wears will appear to be from high end shops on the high street which are popular for her sex and age category. Examples of these can be Zara, Topshop and Selfridges. When performing there are particular props which she will interact with to emphasis the fact she is a singer e.g. microphone, headphones and musical instruments. Finally, many of the clothes Emma wears when acting are costume, therefore she is dressed as the role she is playing. From photos featured in my video we see Emma as a Hawaiian Hula Girl and Disney Princess Jasmine from Aladin.

A Total Talent: Characters

Emma Custis
My documentary focuses on one particular character. This is Emma Custis played by herself. Emma is a teenage girl but not one who leads a normal life of going to school in the weekdays and works on the weekends. Emma is a girl who chased her dreams and today is a succesful superstar. Considered to be a triple threat in the celebrity world as Emma is succesful and talented at singing, dancing and swimming. This documentary follows Emma as she continues to rise to fame through her recording of her new single and her winning a gold medal in the National Swimming Championships.

I chose to cast Emma as this role as these are in fact activities which she participates in, in reality. I felt by casting someone as this role who could actually sing and perform would increase the realism of the documentary. It is hopeful Emma will be able to give me true/realistic answers to interview hquestions as opposed to made up.  Emma playing this role also gives me the opportunity to add home videos and pictures to the documentary.
Anais Dixie, Amy Durbin and Liam Hurley

Other characters which briefly feature in my documentary are best friends Anais and Amy, and Liam, the Manager.  Both sets of characters are interviewed about their relationship with Emma, how proud they are of success, and hopes for the future.  I plan to film these interviews as 'talking head' format, with the possible addition of a non-diegetic soundtrack.
